In 1950, "Rubie's Candy Store" opened in Queens, NY. By 1959 it had changed it's name to "Rubie's Fun House." With as few as 200 costumes in it's inventory, in 1967 Rubie's began to rent out costumes, and decided to rename the company "Rubie's Costume Company" in 1972. When 1973 arrived, they started mass-producing Halloween costumes.
They changed their location in 1979 to Richmond Hill, also in Queens, NY.
Paramount Pictures granted Rubie's their 1st major license to produce Star Trek Costumes in 1990. Since then, Rubie's opened operations in several countries - among them, Portugal, Spain, the UK, Germany, France, Italy, and Canada.
Warner Brothers granted Rubie's WorldWide Rights in 1999.
