House Beautiful has highlighted Costco’s Borealis Murphy Bed, also called the “Illusion” bed, as a guest-room option ahead of hosting season. The report lists a $1,099.99 price and describes a queen foam mattress, pull-out side tables and a cabinet design that can be used for storage when the bed is folded away. Costco availability and the product’s current price may vary.

House Beautiful has spotlighted Costco’s Borealis Murphy Bed, also referred to in the report as the “Illusion” bed, as a space-saving guest-bed option ahead of hosting season. The publication lists the cabinet-style queen bed at $1,099.99 and says it includes a six-inch foam mattress, pull-out side tables and storage when folded away.

The report describes the Borealis as a wood cabinet with a laminate or melamine finish. When the bed is stowed, the unit serves as a credenza-style storage piece; when opened, it provides a queen-size sleeping surface. House Beautiful contrasts the design with Murphy beds whose cabinets can look conspicuous in a room, but that assessment is the publication’s design judgment, not a formal product specification.

The included mattress is a tri-fold foam model measuring 60 by 80 inches, with a listed thickness of six inches. House Beautiful says it is medium-firm, hypoallergenic and latex-free, with a polyester cover. The report advises allowing the mattress 48 hours to expand after setup. The cabinet also has leg levelers for uneven flooring and pull-out side tables for items such as a phone or book.

House Beautiful lists the bed at $1,099.99 and says it was 11% off at the time of its report. It does not provide a dated price history or establish how long the discount would last. The publication also notes that Costco products can be difficult to find at some nearby stores and points readers toward similar options elsewhere; those alternatives are not the same product.

A Guest Bed That Folds Away

The product addresses a familiar space trade-off: a permanent guest bed can make a spare room less useful between visits, while an air mattress may not suit every host or guest. A cabinet bed can be folded away when not in use, leaving the room available for other purposes. Its storage function and side tables may also make it more usable as furniture than a bed frame that remains open.

The listed price is relevant for shoppers weighing a ready-to-use setup against buying pieces separately: House Beautiful says the package includes a queen mattress. But the article does not provide independent durability or comfort testing, delivery and assembly terms, or a comparison of total costs with other models. Buyers should check those details before treating the listed price as a measure of value.

How the Borealis Is Set Up

House Beautiful’s report frames the bed as an option for spare rooms and basements that are used for guests only occasionally. It identifies the Costco product as the Borealis Murphy Bed and uses “Illusion” as an alternate name in its headline and description. The report also says a similar-looking version is available through Amazon, while making clear that the Costco model is the one being discussed.

The bed’s mattress folds into the cabinet with the sleeping surface, so the listed dimensions describe the mattress rather than the assembled cabinet. The source does not give the cabinet’s full dimensions, weight, delivery details or installation requirements. Those specifications matter for shoppers checking whether the furniture will fit through a doorway, suit the room or work with the available floor space.

““The tri-fold mattress measures 60” x 80” and has a high-quality six-inch-thick foam.””

Stock, Discounts and Fit

The source is a retail feature, not a live inventory feed or independent product test. It does not confirm current Costco stock, the availability of the 11% discount, or whether the listed price remains in effect. Availability may differ by warehouse and online, and shoppers should verify details with Costco before purchasing.

Other practical questions are not answered in the report: the cabinet’s assembled dimensions, shipping costs, assembly requirements, warranty terms and tested weight limits are not given. The article also does not include customer feedback or comparative testing of mattress comfort and long-term durability. Its descriptions of the bed’s appearance and value should be read as editorial characterizations.

Check Current Product Details

Readers interested in the Borealis should check Costco’s current product listing or contact a local warehouse for price, stock, delivery and assembly information. Before ordering, they can measure the intended room and route into it, then confirm the cabinet dimensions and any setup requirements with the retailer.

House Beautiful’s report does not announce a future product event or a confirmed extension of the discount. The next concrete update for a shopper is whether the bed is available at the stated price in their area; that information can change after publication.
